Transformers: Dark of the Moon Posts Record IMAX Opening
IMAX Corporation and Paramount Pictures announced today that Transformers: Dark of the Moon 3D, the third film in the blockbuster Transformers franchise, posted a record opening in IMAX(R) theatres, generating $23.1 million globally since launch. The total IMAX domestic take was $14 million, while the 146 domestic theatres that played Transformers: Dark of the Moon exclusively generated $88,500 per screen. The overall box office gross for the movie in the U.S. stands at $180,650,000 million through Monday.
Internationally, the movie earned $218.1 million from 111 international markets in its opening frame (through Sunday), with the 105 IMAX screens grossing $9.1 million (through Monday) for a per-screen average of $87,000. The film is set to run on approximately 148 IMAX screens overseas with several key markets like China and Japan still to open.
“Clearly, Transformers: Dark of the Moon is a film audiences really wanted to see in IMAX theatres,” said Richard L. Gelfond, CEO of IMAX. “This represents, by far, the best opening of the year for us, with capacity constraints being the only factor that limited our numbers. The tremendous opening weekend results demonstrate that IMAX is the best way to see blockbuster films.”
Transformers – Year’s Best Opening Weekend!
Records, records everywhere. “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” collected $97.4 million this weekend (from Friday to Sunday), according to studio estimates. That’s a significant result in three ways:
1. It’s the largest opening weekend of the year, passing the $90.2 million debut of “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”
2. It’s the biggest Independence Day weekend, opening beating $88.2 million from “Spider-Man 2.”
3. It’s the third-best July opening weekend, behind “The Dark Knight” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.”
Michael Bay’s $195 million alien-robot threequel is projected to finish the four-day holiday weekend with $116 million, bringing its six-day cumulative total to $181 million.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Jokes About Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox Fling
Rosie’s a jokester!
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley knows all about Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox’s talked-about hookups on the set of the second Transformer flick — and, as Fox’s replacement for Transformers: Dark of the Moon, she steeled herself to resist his advances!
“It was tough,” the stunning British model-turned-actress, 24, joked during an appearance on Chelsea Lately. “I really had to tie myself into my trailer!”
LaBeouf, 25, kissed and told in a recent Details interview about hooking up with Fox, 25. “Look, you’re on the set for six months, with someone who’s rooting to be attracted to you, and you’re rooting to be attracted to them.”
“I really had to restrain myself,” Huntington-Whiteley yukked when asked about avoiding LaBeouf during the flick’s seven month shoot. “It was really tough for me. I had to wear a chastity belt!”
First Box Office Numbers for Transformers: Dark of the Moon
The first box office numbers for Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon are in. The third installment earned $5.5 million at the 9pm Tuesday night screenings in 2,700 3D theaters and added more 2D screens at midnight to take in $8 million at that time for a total of $13.5 million so far.
The original Transformers debuted on a Monday night with $8.8 million while Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen made $16 million its first night at midnight.
The studio is estimating the movie will make between $155 million to $165 million through the July 4th holiday, but we’ll keep you updated with more box office reports.
Transformers: The Dark of the Moon New York Premiere
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wore a red hot Antonio Berardi number for the premiere of Transformers: Dark of the Moon yesterday in NYC’s Times Square. Rosie finished off her look with Christian Louboutin shoes and a custom-made necklace called “The Rosie,” which is coming soon to JewelMint! Rosie looks absolutely AMAZING! This is definitely my favorite look of her Transformers promo appearances to date.
More photos from the event coming soon!
Transformers: Dark of the Moon Reviews!
Victoria’s Secret model-turned-first time actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley makes you forget all about Megan Fox within moments of seeing her onscreen. Where Fox’s love interest was skanky, Rosie’s is charming, sweet and, yes, hotter than hell.
Part of what motivates Sam in this movie is the need to impress his new girlfriend Carly (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley), and while I think Megan Fox takes an unfair beating from people when they write about her, I’ll be the first to admit the series does not miss her at all now that she’s gone. Huntington-Whiteley turns out to be a very winning on-screen personality, charming and sweet, and she seems well aware that Michael Bay is shooting her like a car in a car commercial. She definitely plays up the physical side of things, but I think she’s going to appeal to women in a way that Fox never did. She reminds me of Cameron Diaz in “The Mask,” an actress who doesn’t really show off any range, but who gives a natural, winning performance and who is up to the challenge of this particular picture. There’s a famous quote about Fred Astaire’s most famous dance partner, “Don’t forget, Ginger Rogers did everything Astaire did, but backwards and in heels,” and I kept thinking of that during the Chicago sequence, when Rosie has to keep up with the boys in some of the craziest action scenes of the year, and she manages to do so wearing the biggest high heels I can imagine. She makes it all seem easy, and I predict she’s going to be cast in more films immediately once people get a look at how she handles herself here.
